Research Division: Plant and Food Science
Head: Ao.Univ.Prof. Dipl.Ing. Dr. Ingrid Steiner
The research division of “Plant and Food Science” focuses on biological resources such as plants, plant products and organic raw materials, their application in food and food products as well as on special topics in the field of food chemistry, food technology and archaeometry. Research is based on a broad spectrum of complementary expertise including chemical, biochemical, biotechnological and molecular biological analysis as well as microscopic investigations of natural products, plants and foods. Food, food packaging and feed industry, agrochemical manufacturers, plant breeders, pharmaceutical companies, government agencies and groups concerned with questions in archaeometry make use of these research services.
Core Competences:
• Plant protection strategies
• Plant-pathogen interactions
• Biosynthesis of secondary metabolites
• Formation of metabolites in specific tissues and at the subcellular level
• Organic matter of natural products
• Organic archaeometry of historical objects
• Food preservation and food plant sanitation
• Food contact materials (interaction food-packaging materials, active packaging)
• Chemistry and technology of functional food
• Chemistry and technology of food additives and food supplements
