Waste2Storage (W2S)

Combustion of solid fuels and waste results in different types of ashes. Several hundred  thousand tons of fly ash are being produced by different combustion processes in Austria. Fly ash is divided into hazardous and non-hazardous category based on its chemical composition. Generally, non-hazardous fly ash may be utilized in the construction industry as opposed to hazardous ash.

Based on the chemical composition of fly ashes and our gained knowledge from thermochemical energy storage through the SolidHeat Basic (SHB), SolidHeat kinetics (SHK) and SolidHeat Pressure (SHP) projects another utilization of fly ash may be possible.

In the frame work of the Waste2Storage project, the potential of fly ash from different industries as thermochemical and CO2 storage will be investigated.
