Innovative Technologies to Realize Deep-Drilling for Geothermal Applications

Wir bitten um Verständnis, dass die Informationen über dieses Projekt derzeit nur in englischer Sprache verfügbar sind.

At regions about five to ten kilometres under surface enough geothermal energy at usable temperature levels would be available. The problem of conventional drilling systems is the enormous rise of operating costs as soon as the well depth increases five kilometres. To make utilization of this geothermal heat possible and affordable a new deep-drilling system should be developed.
Unlike commonly used drilling systems the new facility should destroy the rock by repeating micro-detonations and should remove the rock layer by layer. Therefore a detonation chamber has to be developed and optimized by use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and chemical kinetic-simulation tools. The difficulties of the simulations are the combination of supersonic-multiphase-flows with detailed combustion or explosion chemistry, as well as the extreme operating conditions (high pressures of up to 1000 bar).
