Design and Construction of a new Fully Continuously Operated FCC Pilot Plant with Internally Circulating Fluidized Bed

A new and fully continuously operated FCC – pilot plant with high flexibility was designed and constructed. The motivation for this project is given by the different challenges when not feeding the system with standard FCC feed (VGO) but using several vegetable oils, animal fats, pyrolysis oils, fatty acids, used frying oils, tall oil and others.

In particular the different coking behaviour leads to different capacity ratios between riser reactor and regenerator. With a special focus on the performance of thermal cracking reactions in the  system at lower temperature levels it is necessary to provide thermal decoupling between riser and regenerator which is achieved by the installation of a special heat exchanger system.
