The behaviour of a variety of special conditioned catalysts for fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) was tested in the fully continuously operated pilot plant. The main parameters were coke formation, gas (olefin) yield and gasoline production.

FCC-catalysts are zeolites doped with rare-earth metals. Depending on the crystallization conditions during production, activity and selectivity varies greatly.

In order to find the catalyst that fits industry’s requirements best, many experiments were carried out. The feed for testing the catalysts was primarily vacuum gas oil (VGO, the standard feed for FCC-Plants), but unusual oils as well (i.e. rapeseed oil or pyrolysis oil).
